Culture at Aranybástya: new exhibition with works by Réka Schnedarek and Botond Lakatos

Aranybástya Restaurant, located in the heart of the Buda Castle District, awaits its guests not only with a special panorama and gastronomic experiences but also with constantly renewed cultural content. Art exhibitions have now become an organic part of the restaurant's identity.

Whether it’s an evening dinner or a weekend brunch, within the walls of Aranybástya one can always encounter fresh voices of contemporary art. The Budapest restaurant awaits those who wish to combine culinary and visual pleasures. It is no coincidence that the name Aranybástya has come to stand for the meeting of culture and gastronomy in Budapest.

Art with dinner: tradition and novelty

In recent years, numerous remarkable exhibitions in Buda have taken place within the walls of Aranybástya, showcasing works by Anna Orosz, Károly Szikszai, Norbert Bukta or Erzsébet Vojnich, among others. The restaurant's exhibitions often connect to current social or natural themes, yet always strive for a harmonious visual presence that does not overpower but complements the experience of the space and dining.

These collaborations occupy a special place on the Budapest-focused map of contemporary art, as they allow the audience to engage with the artworks in a direct, experiential way, even with a glass of wine or dessert. This is the approach that has become one of the key values of Aranybástya’s programmes.

Inner Gardens – new exhibition at Aranybástya

The latest exhibition opens in the summer of 2025 and once again offers a special interdisciplinary experience. Painter couple Réka Schnedarek and Botond Lakatos’s first joint exhibition is titled Inner Gardens, and it will be on view throughout the summer at Aranybástya Restaurant.

The artists, both graduates of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, are each unique in their own painting style, yet together they create an even more complex, even more intimate universe.

  1. Réka Schnedarek’s paintings capture the fragile beauty of the moment; her favourite themes are the world of gardens and the home, calm and meditative spaces.
  2. Botond Lakatos, in contrast, works with vivid ornamentation and mythical symbols, his works often evoking labyrinth-like imaginary gardens.

Inner Gardens is a sensitive dialogue of two perspectives, two ways of seeing. The exhibition’s uniqueness lies in how the works do not compete but complement each other, creating a kind of quiet balance on the walls. This atmosphere fits perfectly with Aranybástya Restaurant’s exhibition concept: here, we not only see and taste, but truly live through the art.

Culture beside the plate, an experience for all senses

If you are looking for a special restaurant with a panorama in Budapest, where contemporary art is not just decoration but part of the experience, then Aranybástya is the ideal choice. The art exhibition in a restaurant is an increasingly popular format, but few places achieve such harmony as here.

It is worth keeping an eye on the opportunities offered by this Budapest restaurant with an exhibition and visiting the new show – with a glass of wine in hand, the summer panorama in the background, letting art and gastronomy affect us simultaneously.
