Aranybástya is more than just a restaurant: it’s a venue for exhibitions and art programs in the Buda Castle. The rooms of the Lónyay-Hatvany-villa host a rotating series of exhibitions by Hungarian artists; the history of the building dates back to the Ottoman era, and behind the glass walls of the Exhibition Space, the castle walls themselves serve as a backdrop for the artworks. History of the Aranybástya
The story of the Lónyay-Hatvany-Villa, home of the Aranybástya Restaurant, is not only the history of a building, but also reflects important historical moments in Budapest. The building dates back to Turkish times and has undergone many transformations over the centuries.
Exhibitions
At Aranybástyában , we place great emphasis on Hungarian values: among other things, because of the villa itself and Count Nagylónyai’s art collection, which is located on Level -1. That is why our openness to culture is so important. On the ground floor, we showcase works by contemporary Hungarian artists, with the exhibition changing annually or semiannually. Aranybástyában provides a space and a role for gastronomy, culture, the arts, and painting.
