Cyanotype is not merely a photographic process, but the slow, blue-tinged breath of light and time. When sunlight meets the light-sensitive salts coating the paper, the intangible itself becomes tangible. This archaic process is based on the reaction of iron compounds. The yellow-green emulsion applied to the surface begins to change upon contact with ultraviolet rays, then is reduced during rinsing with pure water, acquiring its unmistakable, deep dusty-blue hue. Graphic artist Péter Zoltán Öllinger uses this unique technique to condense invisible psychological processes into a distinctive, geometrized spatial system. In his works, shadows do not signify darkness but rather attest to the presence of light.

In an age dominated by noise, this contemporary artist is a quiet rebel who consciously conveys a positive message through his images. In his works, timeless human dilemmas appear not as a heavy burden but as lyrical, resolving questions. The delicately shimmering, nuanced forms on the surfaces create an enigmatic, almost mystical atmosphere. It is as if we were walking within the walls of a forgotten monastery or through a never-before-seen interior landscape, where strict geometry is softened by the playfulness of water and chemistry. Although the light that creates the image is the most ephemeral of phenomena, the cyanotype is nevertheless capable of preserving this transience as a permanent imprint.

Péter Zoltán Öllinger’s artistic vision has been greatly influenced by his professional experiences in recent years, which have spanned national borders and continents. In addition to exhibitions in Vienna, Prague, Bratislava, Belgrade, and Cluj-Napoca, he has participated in prestigious international events such as the Ironbridge Print Competition in England and the Cairo Graphic Arts Triennial. In Hungary, audiences at the most important professional forums—the Vásárhely Autumn Exhibition and the Szeged Summer Exhibition—have also had the opportunity to view his refined compositions. At the latter, in 2025, his talent was recognized not only with the HAB graphic arts scholarship but also with a special award.

At the exhibition held Aranybástya , however, viewers will see more than just cyanotypes. The works remind us that even above the deepest shadows, the ceaseless, all-pervading light continues to shine.
