Looking for a romantic restaurant in Budapest? Enjoy dinner at the Buda Castle, with the most beautiful panoramic view of Budapest: the Parliament, the Chain Bridge, and the city’s evening lights. Reserve a table.
A romantic dinner isn’t all about rose petals—it’s about a few good decisions: where you sit, what you see from your table, and whether you’ll have time for each other between courses. If you’re looking for a romantic restaurant in Budapest, most lists recommend candlelit spots in the city center. We know better: we welcome you Lónyay-Hatvany historic Lónyay-Hatvany in Buda’s Castle District, which offers the most beautiful panoramic view of Budapest. We don’t have to write the script for the evening—the city does that for us.
What makes a dinner truly romantic?
Three things make the difference, and none of them is the decor. The first is the view: from the table, you can see the Parliament, the Chain Bridge, and the Basilica, with the Danube tying the whole scene together. The second is the pace: upper-class cuisine takes its time; the courses allow plenty of time for conversation. The third is the quiet that comes with an evening in the Castle District: the noise of downtown doesn’t drift up here; only the city’s lights are visible.

The best time to arrive: while it's still light out
The panorama reveals itself twice in the course of an evening. Upon arrival, while it’s still light out, the city’s entire silhouette comes into view. Then, after dusk, when the lights come on: first the arch of the Chain Bridge, then the facade of the Parliament. Anyone who watches this transition from their table won’t need us to explain why we brought them here. We’re open every day from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; for the light show, it’s best to plan to arrive around 8:00 p.m. in the summer and around 3:30 p.m. in the winter.
A terrace in the summer, an igloo in the winter
In the summer, the terrace is the perfect setting for a romantic evening: the open sky, the city spread out at your feet. You don’t have to miss out on the view from fall through spring either: from October through March, our heated igloos are set up on the terrace, offering the same panoramic view through glass walls. For two, an igloo is the most private way to experience what the Castle has to offer on an evening out.
Champagne against the city skyline
The Aranybástya isthe first Hungarian ambassador for Philipponnat champagne, and wines from the Hungarian champagne houses Törley and Kreinbacher are also on the menu. Whether it’s for an anniversary or to address an unspoken question, a glass of champagne with the lights of Parliament in the background makes for quite a striking start. And to round out the evening with a touch of gold, there’s the 23-karat gold cappuccino to enjoy at the end of dinner.
