These venues of differing character evoke the experience of grand bourgeois hospitality high above Budapest.

Where to celebrate New Year's Eve in Budapest if the view matters?

The Lónyay-Hatvany Villa in Buda Castle, situated approximately 300 metres as the crow flies from Fisherman's Bastion, provides the backdrop for a panoramic New Year's Eve. Igloo in the Hanging Garden: a corporate or friends' New Year's Eve for up to 40 guests

A larger corporate New Year's Eve or a shared evening for a wider circle of friends can find its place in the temperature-controlled igloo of the Hanging Garden in Buda Castle, ensuring the experience of grand bourgeois hospitality remains undiminished even during the cooler hours. The city lights are clearly visible from this space, while a party of up to 40 guests can be comfortably seated on the final night of the old year. Hiring the igloo in December requires a bespoke quote, and although bookings can only be finalised three weeks before the event at the earliest, we are already accepting requests.

Library Room: a private New Year's Eve with its own panoramic terrace

Parties desiring a more secluded celebration are welcomed into the 140 square metre Library Room on the third floor of the villa, complete with its own panoramic terrace. With its fireplace, fine wood panelling and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, it evokes classic grand bourgeois salons. The layout of the space adapts to the occasion, allowing 30 guests at round tables, 24 at a long table, or 50 guests for a standing reception to gather for the evening. The separate entrance from Hunyadi János út allows for a quiet arrival entirely independent of the restaurant, while the private terrace commands a Budapest panorama stretching from the Chain Bridge past the Parliament to Margaret Island.

Can fireworks be seen from Aranybástya on New Year's Eve?

According to the municipal decree that came into effect in December 2025, the use of class 2 and 3 pyrotechnic fireworks is prohibited across much of Budapest, including within a 50 metre radius of residential buildings, on both 31 December and 1 January. While the 20 August fireworks over the Danube can be seen from the terrace, on New Year's Eve the illuminated Parliament, the Chain Bridge and the river provide the festive backdrop. Any displays that light up over the city at midnight are a bonus, rather than part of an advertised programme.
